“And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house…. thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.” (Gen 24:1,4)
So Abraham placed a demand upon Eliezer. “I want you to go to a place called Specific, and find a life partner for my son.
So what do you do when the boss gives you a task?
What do you do when your Partner places a demand on you?
What do you do when life asks something of you, that is extremely difficult?
How do you achieve fulfilment, when you start the year filled with dreams, desires, and expectations?
1. RISE TO THE OCCASION
“and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia,” (v.10)
Eliezer didn’t refuse the job. He didn’t say “I can’t” He just got on with it.
He rose up early in the morning to MEET the task. Champions eat the frog early, they get out of bed, they leave their comfort zones, they embrace their reality on time and they take responsibility while others procrastinate.
I know you’ve had so many prophecies and have made so many resolutions at the beginning of this new year, 2018, but HOW do you achieve success and fulfil prophecy?
The key to success this year, is, WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO!
Are you going to rise to the occasion this year?
Are you going to act this year or are you just going to procrastinate again and again?
Are you going to DO this year or will you just FOLD YOUR HANDS and hope again?
Eliezer went to work IMMEDIATELY, AT THE START, IN THE BEGINNING, and EARLY.
May God grant you the wisdom to engage 2018 early, amen.
2. BE PREPARED
“And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed” (v.10)
Eliezer took gifts for the bride to be and her family. He was prepared. Champions don’t wait for IT, they MAKE IT HAPPEN in their minds before IT comes to pass.
Eliezer was ready for the success story, and he had unflinching faith in the positive outcome of his journey
He knew he was going to be successful, so he PREPARED FOR SUCCESS.
Are you DRESSED FOR IT?
Have you prepared your victory speech? Have you chosen the colour? Have you measured the dimensions?
Do you know where your new office would be? Have you chosen which part of town you’d like the job? Have you decided how you’re going to implement the contract? Do you have a vision board that reminds you daily of WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE?
If you just WAIT for it to happen, IT will NEVER happen. You have to SEE the INVISIBLE to ACHIEVE the IMPOSSIBLE!
3. YOU MUST HAVE A PLAN
“And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.” (v.11)
Do you have a plan? Or are you just trying to blag IT again? Do you KNOW your plan?
Preparation is the Food of champions. Eliezer did his research; he enquired about THE PLACE TO BE, he gathered information about WHERE TO FIND IT, he sought knowledge from the knowledge bank, and with THESE, he made a plan
He knew WHAT TO DO, WHEN TO DO IT and HOW TO DO IT!
GO TO THE WELL, and NOWHERE ELSE BUT THE WELL. Not the gate, not the roadside, not anywhere else…
ARRIVE IN THE EVENING and NOT ANY OTHER TIME. Don’t go early, don’t go midday. Isn’t it true sometimes that WHAT WE DON’T KNOW COULD BE KILLING US? (Hosea 4:6 “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”
MAKE THE CAMELS KNEEL FOR WATER and THE LADIES would come and open the well
Have a PLAN and HALF of the Task is done!
4. PRAY
And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee (v.12)
How could he go to battle without the most powerful weapon? Eliezer committed his plans to God.
Note that he prayed AFTER he DID HIS OWN PART?
When you’ve done EVERYTHING you can, call upon God to assist you with WHAT YOU CANNOT DO.
Heaven backs the effort of the saint who is willing to act, try, persevere, fall short again and again, but never give up!
When you’ve done ALL YOU CAN, ask God to DO HIS OWN PART that YOU CANNOT DO.
5. BE SPECIFIC
“Oh Lord send me good speed this day,and shew kindness unto my master Abraham….. And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; (v.12 & 14)
He made two specific requests: SPEED and EXACTLY WHO HE WANTED. Hello!
Can you be specific so that when God answers you, you know, THIS IS IT! THIS IS HER! THERE HE IS! THIS IS THE PLACE! THIS IS THE JOB! THIS IS THE OPPORTUNITY!
Stop sending God a blank template and unclear text messages!
Don’t ask God for ANY JOB, ANY THING, SOMEONE….. Tell Him What You Want and let Him decide HOW to answer you
Eliezer was TIME SPECIFIC!
By February 2018 I will be ……
Don’t say “sometime this year I hope to achieve ….”
Once you give the brain a SPECIFIC TIME and DATE, it activates all kinds of mechanisms to make that date achievable.
If you DON’T give it a SET DATE, then it does NOTHING! Be careful what you feed your brain!
So Eliezer:
1. Rose to the Occassion
2. Was Prepared
3. Had a Plan
4. Prayed
5. Was Specific
“And it came to pass before he had done speaking, that, behold,Rebekah came out” (v.15)
“Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the LORD hath spoken.” (v51 & 52)
Eliezer achieved success. He gained possession. When a person is truly ready for a thing, it puts up its appearance, but remember, he had to do his own part too.
I pray that you’re truly ready for all the success and blessings and breakthroughs God has for you in 2018.
But don’t forget, work the plan and let God do the rest
God bless you!
